MAGPLAN Management plan to prevent threats from point sources on the good chemical status of groundwater in urban areas

Country: EU Projects
Start Date:   1/1/2010         Duration: 57 months         Project Type: Demonstration
Contract Number:
Organisation Type:  EC Project
Topics:
Contaminated land-->Soil and groundwater processes-->Modelling
Contaminated land-->Soil and groundwater processes-->Soil and groundwater processes overview
Groundwater protection-->Groundwater processes-->Groundwater processes overview
Groundwater protection-->Groundwater protection overview
Project objectives:
The project aims are a sustainable improvement of the groundwater quality and a durable safeguarding of the mineral water quality in Stuttgart. Therefore
the experts systematically take groundwater samples in the entire inner city basin. These samples provide the basis for a detailed numerical groundwater
model aiming at an adequate comprehension of the interactions taking place in the underground of Stuttgart. Derived from this the existing sources of pollution
will be identified and the remediation of the main sources will be prepared.
Project Summary:
The groundwater of the whole inner city of Stuttgart will be investigated in an integral way during the project MAGPlan to identify the most serious sources
endangering the groundwater and the mineral water springs of Stuttgart. During the project lifetime remediation options will be elaborated. Remediation
activities should be started.
